We want you to really enjoy your stay, to help with this we have drawn up a few guidelines.
- This is a working farm, we have sheep that are free to roam most of the fields, free range chickens, swans and ducks, we are also hoping to attract more ground nesting birds and other wildlife. It is absolutely vital that none of these animals/wildlife are chased or stressed therefore:
WITHOUT EXCEPTION DOGS MUST BE ON A LEAD AROUND THE FARM however well trained they may be! The fields are likely to contain sheep or horses.
Your dog(s) are welcome to be lead free in the fenced areas directly attached to Mallards Barn or Oaklands Cottage (the fences are not 6 feet high so if you own an escape expert or agility champion they will need close supervision!).
- Please feel free to exercise your dog on a lead up the track between the ponds, to the end where there is a galvanised gate. You can also take the public footpath that goes up through the 3rd gate on the left after the ponds. It is a black metal gate and it MUST be shut once you have been through it. This footpath goes diagonally to a large Oak tree, then follow the hedgerow to the top of the hill, (there is a stepped stile onto the road). From here you can walk miles on country lanes and footpaths! Feel free to use the OS map in your accommodation whilst you are staying. There are also some great local walks that can be down loaded from www.visitmonmouthshire.com
- Should you need a stile Free walk we have discovered a great network of footpaths and bridle paths from Dingestow (a 2 minute drive from the farm) that includes the beautiful Treowen Estate, forestry tracks and a section of the Offa’s Dyke path.
- We supply a few poo bags, please feel free to use them if you have forgotten your supply. There is a poo bin just inside the gate of the small field opposite the holiday accommodation, please don’t be afraid to use it, No one likes treading in poo!!
- A towel and water/food bowl are available for your use.
- If you wish/need to wash all or parts of your dog whilst here, we have a tap (not human drinking water just unfiltered spring water!) and hose pipe on the concrete area by the pond (only cold water at present sorry!!).
Many thanks and enjoy your stay with us.
